How does undergraduate teaching compare at the University of Georgia and Princeton?

For consistently close access to professors and discussion-centered undergraduate classes, Princeton has the clearer advantage. Its undergraduate curriculum is built around small seminars, freshman seminars, and preceptorials, which pair lectures with small-group discussion. Princeton also has a strong institutional focus on undergraduates, so faculty interaction is a central part of the academic model rather than an add-on.

At Princeton, introductory courses can still be large, particularly in economics, computer science, and the natural sciences. But students are more likely to have regular opportunities to ask questions in a precept, attend faculty office hours, and work closely with professors through junior independent work and the senior thesis. The teaching style tends to reward active participation, writing, and sustained feedback.

UGA has many excellent, invested professors, especially within particular departments, but the undergraduate experience is less uniform. As a large public research university, high-demand introductory classes may be taught in large lecture formats with graduate teaching assistants handling some discussion sections, labs, or grading.
