Is UC Berkeley harder to get into than the University of Georgia?

UC Berkeley is broadly harder to get into than the University of Georgia for undergraduate admission. Berkeley receives an exceptionally large national and international applicant pool and has very limited space relative to demand.

UGA is a highly selective flagship university, but it enrolls a substantial number of Georgia residents and gives considerable attention to strong in-state students. Berkeley, by contrast, draws applicants from across California, the United States, and abroad who often present very rigorous coursework and extensive academic preparation.

Residency can change the comparison somewhat. A well-qualified Georgia resident may have a clearer admissions path at UGA than at Berkeley, while a California resident may benefit from Berkeley’s mission to serve state residents. Even so, Berkeley remains the more difficult overall admit because the volume and academic strength of its applicant pool make admission less predictable.

UGA should not be treated as an automatic safety simply because Berkeley is more selective. Strong grades in the most rigorous courses available, a solid senior schedule, and a credible record of involvement matter at both schools, but Berkeley typically requires an even more distinctive academic and personal profile.
