Should I choose Arizona State University or UT Dallas for an undergraduate data science degree?

I’m a high school senior deciding between Arizona State University and UT Dallas for data science. Both have programs that interest me, and I’m trying to determine which school would provide the stronger overall preparation for a career in data science.

For a student who wants a large, energetic campus and access to the Phoenix-area technology, healthcare, and public-sector economy, Arizona State can be an excellent data science choice. For data science specifically, the most important comparison is the required coursework, not the degree title. Look for substantial programming, data structures or software development, probability, statistical inference, linear algebra, databases, machine learning, and a capstone or research experience. Compare each school’s current catalog and see how many advanced electives you can realistically take in computer science, mathematics, and statistics.

In either case, the student who graduates with strong Python or R skills, SQL, solid math foundations, two or more relevant projects, and internship experience will be far better prepared than one who relies on the major name alone.
