Georgia Tech vs. Carnegie Mellon for Game Development: Which School Is Better?

Georgia Tech can be particularly attractive for students who see themselves first as programmers, engine or tools developers, technical designers, or gameplay engineers. Atlanta also provides a sizable technology and creative-media setting, and Tech’s broader strengths in computing, AI, graphics, and human-centered technology can support game-focused work without requiring every course to be about games.

For interactive design and cross-disciplinary game creation, CMU has the more concentrated game-oriented culture. For a technically intensive, flexible route into game programming with a strong student development community, Georgia Tech is an excellent fit. In either case, internships, shipped team projects, and a polished portfolio will matter more to game employers than the title of the degree alone.
