Columbia vs Stanford for undergraduate computer engineering: which is a better fit?

I’m a high school senior deciding between Columbia and Stanford for computer engineering. I’m equally interested in hardware and software, so I’m trying to understand which school offers the stronger overall undergraduate fit for that field.

Because you are equally drawn to hardware and software, examine the specific courses and labs you would realistically take at each school. Choose Stanford if you want maximum freedom to combine EE and CS in a campus culture deeply connected to technology creation. Choose Columbia if you value the formal computer engineering major, the Core, and the academic and professional opportunities of New York City.
