Its campus is in Santa Clara, near major technology employers, which makes part-time internships, school-year networking events, and in-person interviews far more practical. SCU’s alumni and employer relationships are especially concentrated in the Bay Area, so students encounter a regional tech network throughout college rather than only during summer recruiting.

Location matters most for internships. An SCU student can realistically pursue an internship or project with a nearby company during the academic year, attend local professional events, and build relationships over several quarters. That repeated local exposure can be valuable for landing a first full-time role, particularly at companies that hire through referrals, prior interns, or campus-adjacent recruiting.

UVA can still lead to Silicon Valley, especially for students in computer science, engineering, data-oriented fields, or strong business-related pathways. It has a respected national alumni network and attracts employers well beyond Virginia. However, a UVA student targeting the Bay Area will typically need to be more intentional about using summers, alumni outreach, virtual recruiting, and travel for interviews or internships.
