Is Auburn or the University of Florida More Selective for Out-of-State Applicants?

For an out-of-state applicant, the University of Florida is typically much more selective than Auburn. UF receives a very large national applicant pool, has limited space for non-Florida residents at a public university, and expects especially strong academic preparation from applicants it admits. Auburn is selective as well, but it is more attainable for a wider range of qualified nonresident students.

UF tends to fit applicants whose records are near the top of a rigorous high-school curriculum: sustained high grades, demanding coursework available at their school, and meaningful accomplishments outside class. Being from out of state does not make admission impossible, but nonresidents should treat UF as a reach unless their academic profile is exceptionally strong relative to their school context.

For planning purposes, it makes sense to place UF in a more ambitious category and Auburn closer to a realistic or likely option only after comparing your own transcript and course rigor with each school’s recently admitted-student information. Major choice, residency, and institutional priorities can affect individual outcomes, but they do not change the overall comparison: UF is harder to enter from out of state.
