Choose Duke for business unless Clemson is substantially more affordable for your family or you specifically want a traditional undergraduate business major.

Duke does not offer a conventional undergraduate business major; most students aiming at business careers major in economics or combine it with fields such as computer science, statistics, public policy, or psychology. That structure can advantage employers that value analytical depth, but it requires more initiative in selecting finance, accounting, entrepreneurship, and internship experiences. Fuqua is Duke’s business school at the graduate level, though undergraduates can still benefit from its broader business community and programming.

Clemson provides the more direct business-school experience through its College of Business, with undergraduate paths including accounting, finance, management, marketing, and related areas. For a student who wants a clearly defined business curriculum from the first year and a more conventional professional-school structure, Clemson has an important practical edge.

The campus experiences are notably different. Duke is a smaller private university with an intense academic culture, a residential campus in a mid-sized metro area, and strong access to cross-disciplinary opportunities. Clemson is a much larger public university with a classic college-town setting, prominent school spirit, and a more expansive social and athletic atmosphere. Compare the net price carefully: a large cost difference can outweigh Duke’s recruiting advantage, especially for business careers where minimizing undergraduate debt preserves flexibility.
