Which is cheaper overall for a Maryland resident: UMD or Virginia Tech?

For most Maryland residents, the University of Maryland will cost substantially less overall than Virginia Tech. UMD charges you Maryland in-state tuition, while Virginia Tech would bill you at its out-of-state rate; that tuition difference alone is typically large enough that similar housing, dining, and personal costs do not change the result.
