Carnegie Mellon vs UIUC Engineering: How Do the Undergraduate Programs Differ?

For a broadly based undergraduate engineering education, UIUC is the stronger pick; Carnegie Mellon is especially compelling when your interests are tightly centered on computing-intensive engineering, robotics, AI, or building across engineering and computer science. UIUC is much larger and offers more of the full public-university experience, including a broader social scene, more student communities, and a wider range of engineering subcultures. Cost should carry substantial weight as well, because UIUC can be markedly more economical for Illinois residents.
