Is Cornell or Rice better for a career in hotel management?

Cornell is the clear choice for a career specifically in hotel management. Its Nolan School of Hotel Administration is one of the few undergraduate programs built around hospitality, with coursework in hotel operations, food and beverage, real estate, finance, revenue management, and service leadership. Rice is an excellent university, but it does not offer a comparable undergraduate hotel-management program or hospitality school.

At Cornell, hotel students learn in an environment connected directly to the industry. The Statler Hotel on campus serves as a practical learning setting, and the program’s curriculum is designed for the business side of lodging and hospitality rather than only for a broad liberal-arts or general business path.

Cornell also offers unusually concentrated hospitality recruiting and alumni connections. Major hotel brands, luxury properties, consulting firms, restaurant groups, and hospitality real-estate employers actively recognize the Nolan program, and students commonly pursue hospitality-focused internships during college.

Rice could make sense only if your interests are broader than hotel management, such as entrepreneurship, engineering, data, architecture, or another field you would later apply to hospitality. For someone who already knows they want to work in hotels, resorts, lodging operations, or hospitality finance, Cornell provides the more direct academic training, industry access, and peer network.
