Is Georgia Tech or Fordham more affordable for college?

The biggest practical tradeoff is residency: Georgia Tech is typically far less expensive for a Georgia resident because of its public in-state tuition, while Fordham’s private-university price is the same regardless of where you live but may be reduced substantially through need-based aid or merit scholarships. For an out-of-state student, Georgia Tech’s tuition rises considerably, so the comparison can become much closer. Housing also differs: Fordham’s New York City locations can create higher day-to-day living costs, although its housing and meal-plan charges should be compared directly with Georgia Tech’s Atlanta estimates.

Fordham commonly provides institutional grants and merit awards, but its major named scholarships are competitive, so do not assume merit aid will be available. Those awards can make its net cost meaningfully lower than its sticker price for some applicants.

Compare each school’s official financial-aid offer rather than tuition alone. Include grants and scholarships that do not need repayment, federal work-study only if you realistically plan to work, required loans, health insurance, travel, and whether any scholarship renews for four years and has GPA or enrollment requirements.

For most Georgia residents, Georgia Tech will be the more affordable choice. For nonresidents, Fordham can be less expensive when its grant and scholarship package is significantly stronger, but Georgia Tech may still offer a compelling total value if its final net price is similar.
