Is Georgia Tech or Fordham better for getting internships in New York?

The biggest practical tradeoff is daily access versus national technical recruiting: Fordham puts you in New York, making semester-long internships and networking far easier to fit around classes, while Georgia Tech offers a stronger recruiting platform for many engineering, computing, and quantitative roles but requires you to pursue New York opportunities from Atlanta. Fordham students can commute to internships during the academic year from its Rose Hill or Lincoln Center campuses, particularly in finance, media, marketing, nonprofit work, law-related fields, and business. Georgia Tech students more often use summer internships, career fairs, alumni outreach, and employer recruiting to reach New York.

Fordham’s New York alumni base and local employer familiarity are meaningful advantages when an internship depends on coffee chats, campus-area events, or being available in person on short notice. Its Lincoln Center presence is especially convenient for students targeting Manhattan-based industries, although the value of that access depends on your major and initiative. Being in the city does not automatically produce an internship, but it gives you many more chances to build relationships during the school year.

Georgia Tech carries particularly strong name recognition with employers hiring engineers, computer scientists, data-focused students, and technically oriented business candidates. Major firms with New York offices recruit nationally for those roles, so a Georgia Tech student can absolutely intern in the city, especially over the summer. Its co-op culture and rigorous technical curriculum can also make a résumé stand out, though its most immediate recruiting connections are not centered in New York.
