Cost and residency status matter heavily too, since in-state tuition can outweigh relatively small differences in program reputation.

At UGA, the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences offers an Athens-based college experience with additional learning and research opportunities at its Griffin and Tifton campuses. It is particularly compelling for students interested in poultry science, horticulture, crop and soil sciences, agricultural communication, food science, or careers tied to Georgia and the broader Southeast. Athens also gives you a traditional flagship-campus environment alongside access to an agricultural college.

Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences has a major presence in Columbus and at CFAES Wooster, where research and applied agricultural education are especially visible. It is a strong setting for animal sciences, agribusiness, dairy-related work, agricultural engineering, field crops, and research connected to Ohio’s farming economy. Columbus can also offer broader access to state government, food companies, and a large university network.

For a student without a clear regional preference, choose UGA if you are drawn to Southern agricultural industries and want the Athens experience; choose Ohio State if your interests align more with Midwest production agriculture or the Columbus/Wooster research network. The better overall fit is the school where your intended specialization, likely internship region, and net price line up most closely, rather than one being universally stronger for agriculture.
