Choose the University of Georgia for undergraduate journalism. UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication has a particularly deep reputation in reporting, writing, editing, and media leadership, and its journalism curriculum is built around an ABJ degree rather than a broader communications program. Its Athens location also places students within reach of Atlanta, one of the South’s major media markets.

Grady offers hands-on reporting opportunities through outlets and programs such as Grady Newsource, the student-run Red & Black newspaper, and the Cox Institute for Journalism Innovation, Management and Leadership. Those experiences can produce clips, editing experience, source-building practice, and newsroom routines before graduation, which matter more to entry-level journalism hiring than course titles alone.

UGA also has a substantial journalism alumni network across Georgia and beyond, with especially useful connections in Atlanta newsrooms, public media, sports media, communications, and digital publishing.

Florida is an excellent alternative, especially for students drawn specifically to broadcast journalism. Its College of Journalism and Communications gives students access to the Innovation News Center and WUFT public media, creating a distinctive pathway for television, radio, and multimedia reporting.
