Which university is more prestigious overall: Arizona State University or the University of Washington?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that the University of Washington carries a stronger overall academic reputation and more selective public-university image, while Arizona State offers a much larger, more accessible university environment with broad national visibility. UW is especially well known for research, its Seattle location, and strong connections to the Pacific Northwest’s technology, health care, and public-sector employers. For overall prestige and academic name recognition, the University of Washington is more highly regarded. It is commonly viewed as a leading public research university, and its reputation extends beyond the region because of its research output and established strengths across many academic fields.
