Which offers more hands-on engineering opportunities: ASU or Harvey Mudd?

I’m a high school senior deciding between Arizona State University and Harvey Mudd College for engineering. I learn best by building and testing things, so I’m trying to compare which school provides more hands-on project, lab, and design experience as part of the undergraduate engineering program.

Harvey Mudd offers the more consistently hands-on undergraduate engineering experience because project work is tightly built into its small, general engineering curriculum rather than concentrated in optional programs. The tradeoff is that participation and depth vary more by major, campus, and how proactively a student joins those opportunities.

For a student who wants frequent, required, close-knit building and iteration embedded in the standard curriculum, Harvey Mudd has the clearer edge. ASU is particularly compelling for someone who wants a specific engineering specialization, larger-scale research or industry connections, and the freedom to assemble a highly hands-on path from many available options.
