Is the University of Florida or Wake Forest generally more selective for undergraduate admission?

Wake Forest is generally considered somewhat more selective overall for undergraduate admission, especially when looking at its private-university applicant pool and consistently high academic profile of admitted students. UF is also highly selective and has become notably harder to enter in recent years, but its selectivity varies more sharply by Florida residency. For a Florida resident, UF may be the more attainable of the two; for an out-of-state applicant, the gap can narrow substantially and UF can be a very serious reach.

Wake Forest draws a national pool for a relatively small undergraduate class, and its review places substantial weight on course rigor, grades, writing, recommendations, and extracurricular distinction. Its test-optional policy also means that published testing data should not be used alone to compare the two schools.

UF receives an enormous number of applications and gives meaningful consideration to Florida residents under its public-university mission. Strong Florida applicants with demanding coursework, top grades, and a rigorous senior schedule can have a more favorable path than similarly qualified nonresidents.
