Which offers better internship opportunities, Pepperdine or San Jose State?

For most students prioritizing internship access, San José State offers the stronger advantage because it is embedded in Silicon Valley and has deep ties to employers in technology, engineering, business, and related fields. Its location makes semester-long, part-time internships more practical, since major employers and smaller startups are nearby. San José State’s career services, college-based career centers, career fairs, and alumni network are closely oriented toward connecting students with the regional workforce.

The biggest differentiator is proximity. SJSU students can pursue opportunities in San José, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, and San Francisco without having to relocate for the semester, which matters when an internship requires regular in-person attendance. This is especially meaningful for computer science, software engineering, data science, electrical engineering, product roles, accounting, finance, and supply-chain work.

Pepperdine has worthwhile internship access in the Los Angeles area, particularly for students interested in entertainment, media, marketing, real estate, nonprofit work, law-related fields, and some business paths. Its smaller size can also make faculty and career advising feel more personal. However, the Malibu campus is less centrally located relative to much of Los Angeles’s employment market, so internships often require a substantial commute or careful scheduling.

For internship volume, employer density, and the ability to build professional experience during the academic year, SJSU has the clearer edge. Pepperdine becomes more compelling when a student has a focused interest in industries concentrated in Los Angeles and values its private-school environment and smaller campus community.
