Is the University of Georgia or USC better for studying marketing?

I’m a high school senior choosing between the University of Georgia and the University of Southern California for a marketing degree. I’m mainly trying to compare the overall strength and career preparation of their undergraduate marketing programs.

The biggest practical tradeoff is USC’s access to Los Angeles industries and a private-school alumni network versus UGA’s much lower cost for many Georgia residents and strong pipeline into Atlanta and the Southeast. USC Marshall places marketing-minded students close to entertainment, media, beauty, fashion, technology, and major consumer brands, while UGA’s Terry College of Business is particularly well connected to Atlanta’s large corporate market. Both provide credible undergraduate business training, but their recruiting geographies and price tags can look very different.

At UGA, marketing is a BBA major within Terry, with opportunities to build practical skills through business coursework, student organizations, internships, and Atlanta-based employer connections. It is an especially compelling option for students who expect to begin their careers in Georgia or the broader Southeast, including consumer products, retail, sales, analytics, and corporate marketing roles.

At USC, marketing is pursued through Marshall’s undergraduate business curriculum, with strong access to experiential work and a dense network in Southern California. Los Angeles can be unusually valuable for students drawn to brand partnerships, digital media, entertainment marketing, sports, influencer strategy, or startups. USC’s national name recognition and alumni reach can also help when pursuing West Coast or nationwide opportunities, though students still need strong internships and initiative to benefit fully.

For overall marketing career preparation, USC has the edge if its cost is manageable and you want to build a career around Los Angeles or highly media-driven industries. UGA is the smarter choice when it offers substantially better value, particularly for an in-state student, and it can lead to equally solid marketing outcomes for someone targeting Atlanta, the Southeast, or mainstream corporate marketing.
