UC Santa Barbara vs. MIT for undergraduate physics: which is the stronger choice?

The practical distinction is that MIT offers the more uniformly physics-saturated undergraduate experience, whereas UCSB can be the more appealing setting for a student with a clear interest in its research strengths or in the CCS model. Either can lead to a strong Ph.D. application; at UCSB, taking initiative to join a lab, build faculty relationships, and pursue advanced courses is especially important.
