Tulane vs. UW–Madison: Which school offers better undergraduate internship opportunities?

The biggest practical tradeoff is New Orleans-based, relationship-driven internships at Tulane versus Madison’s stronger access to research, state government, and large Wisconsin employers. Tulane’s location makes it especially easy to pursue semester-long roles in public health, nonprofits, education, hospitality, arts, law, and community development while remaining close to campus. UW–Madison benefits from being in Wisconsin’s capital and from its much larger research enterprise, with opportunities in state agencies, university labs, healthcare, biotech, data, and policy.

Tulane’s service-oriented culture and New Orleans partnerships can make hands-on local work feel highly integrated into undergraduate life. Students interested in health equity, environmental resilience, social impact, entrepreneurship, or culture-based industries may find distinctive opportunities that are difficult to replicate elsewhere. The city’s smaller professional ecosystem can also make sustained networking with local organizations more personal, though it has fewer large corporate headquarters than major Midwestern business centers.
