Dartmouth’s Hanover setting makes campus life unusually immersive. Students live and socialize close together, outdoor activities are central to the culture, and traditions carry real weight. Dartmouth’s quarter-system calendar and rural location can make the college feel intense, close-knit, and occasionally insulated; friendships often form quickly because students spend so much time together.

For campus culture alone, Dartmouth is the more distinctive choice if you want a tight residential community, strong traditions, and an outdoors-oriented social life. ASU makes more sense when you want a larger social universe, urban access, and the freedom to shape a campus experience that can be as involved or independent as you choose.
