Is Brown or Lehigh considered more prestigious overall?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Brown carries broader national and international name recognition, while Lehigh offers a strong but more specialized reputation, especially in engineering, business, and the Northeast. Employers and graduate programs recognize both institutions, but Brown’s Ivy League affiliation and highly selective undergraduate profile give it more immediate prestige across a wider range of fields. Lehigh is well regarded as a rigorous private university, though its reputation is less uniformly prominent outside its strongest areas and regions.

For graduate-school admissions, neither school name substitutes for a strong record. A high GPA in demanding courses, substantive research or internships, recommendations, and clear goals will matter far more than the difference between these two names.
