Which has a more collaborative student environment: UIUC or Brown?

Brown is more consistently known for a collaborative, low-competition student culture across the undergraduate experience.

Brown may fit a student who wants classmates to be curious across disciplines, comfortable collaborating in small seminars, and less focused on conventional academic comparison. That does not mean Brown is easy or free of ambitious students, especially in pre-med, economics, computer science, and research-oriented circles.

UIUC can be highly collaborative, particularly in project-based programs, research labs, student organizations, and many humanities and social science courses. It may suit a student who wants a large, energetic campus with many peers in a specific field and opportunities to find collaborative communities through majors, living-learning programs, and clubs. However, the experience is less uniform: large introductory and technical courses, especially in some engineering, business, and computer science settings, can feel more intense and grade-conscious because of their scale and strong concentration of academically driven students.
