Which has stronger school spirit: Indiana University or Ohio State?

I’m deciding between Indiana University and Ohio State, and school spirit is one of my biggest priorities. I want a campus where students regularly support athletic teams, attend traditions, and participate in a strong community atmosphere.

Ohio State’s spirit is broader and more constant across campus because Big Ten football drives the social calendar, while Indiana’s strongest bursts of energy center on basketball, the Little 500, and Bloomington traditions. At Ohio State, home football weekends, tailgates, the Ohio Stadium environment, and traditions such as Script Ohio create a highly visible campus-wide culture. Students also rally around major teams beyond football, and Columbus gives the university a large-city, big-program atmosphere.

Indiana has distinctive school spirit, especially around men’s basketball at Assembly Hall, one of college basketball’s most recognizable venues. Bloomington’s compact college-town setting also makes it easier for students to encounter campus events, bars, and game-day activity in the same social orbit.

For frequent athletic support, large-scale traditions, and an unmistakable community rallying around teams, Ohio State has the stronger overall school-spirit culture. Indiana is a compelling choice for someone who wants a more basketball-focused identity and a particularly memorable student tradition in the Little 500.
