Is UIUC or UChicago better preparation for law school?
I am a high school senior deciding between the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign and the University of Chicago. I am interested in attending law school after college and want to choose the undergraduate school that would better prepare me academically and position me for a strong law school application.

UChicago may offer the more naturally law-adjacent intellectual training. Its Core curriculum emphasizes close reading, argument, writing, and sustained classroom discussion, all of which resemble skills used in legal study.
UIUC can be an especially smart route if it lets you pursue a subject you genuinely enjoy, earn very strong grades, and avoid taking on substantially more debt. Its size creates extensive options in fields useful for law, including political science, economics, history, philosophy, business-related areas, STEM, and the sciences.
Choose UChicago if you are excited by its Core, expect to thrive amid a highly demanding academic culture, and can still protect your GPA and finances. Choose UIUC if it is substantially more affordable or if its academic options and environment make it more likely that you will earn top grades and have time for substantive experiences.
