How does Arizona State’s academic reputation compare with Duke’s?

Duke has a substantially stronger overall academic reputation than Arizona State, both nationally and internationally. It is widely regarded as a highly selective private research university. Arizona State is a respected large public research university, but its name does not carry the same broad prestige or selectivity outside Arizona.

Arizona State fits students who value the breadth and energy of a major public university. Its size also creates extensive course choices, research activity, internships, and connections in the Phoenix area.

Outside Arizona, employers and graduate schools will recognize ASU as a legitimate R1 university, especially when an applicant has strong grades, relevant experience, and a clear record within a respected program.
