Is UC San Diego or Florida State more fun for student life?

I’m a high school senior choosing between UC San Diego and Florida State, and I care a lot about having an enjoyable social and campus experience. I’m trying to understand which school generally feels more fun and active for students outside of academics.

For a student who wants a highly visible, traditional college social scene, Florida State will likely feel more fun and active. FSU has a strong campus-events culture, major athletics, Greek life, tailgates, and a downtown area near campus where many students socialize. Its school spirit is especially noticeable around football and other game days.

UC San Diego suits students who prefer a more self-directed social life built around friends, beaches, outdoor activities, cultural events, and San Diego itself. The campus is in La Jolla, close to the coast, and students often spend free time surfing, hiking, trying restaurants, or going into nearby neighborhoods rather than centering their weekends on campus parties. UCSD’s residential college system can provide smaller communities, but the overall atmosphere is often described as academically focused and less traditionally party-oriented.
