Which is better for finance, Indiana University or the University of San Francisco?

I’m trying to compare Indiana University and the University of San Francisco for finance as a high school senior. I’m mostly looking at which school would be better for preparing for finance careers and building a strong resume for internships or jobs after college.

Both seem like solid options, but I’m having trouble figuring out which one has the stronger finance program overall.

For finance, Indiana University is the stronger option for most students. Its Kelley School of Business has a much bigger national reputation in business, a deeper alumni network, and more structured recruiting pipelines into finance roles. If your goal is to build the strongest resume for internships and full-time recruiting, IU usually gives you more momentum.

IU makes the most sense for a student who wants a large, highly developed business environment with lots of finance-specific resources. Kelley is known for specialized undergraduate business training, student organizations tied to investment and markets, and strong employer visibility. That matters because finance recruiting often depends on brand recognition, alumni connections, and access to clubs, competitions, and early internship pathways.

USF can still be a smart pick for a student who wants to be in San Francisco during college and values proximity to local companies over a traditional big-campus business ecosystem. Being in the city can help with networking and part-time internship access during the school year, especially if you are proactive and interested in Bay Area finance, fintech, or smaller firms. The tradeoff is that USF does not carry the same broad national finance reputation or recruiting depth that IU Kelley does.

If you are aiming at competitive finance paths like investment banking, asset management, corporate finance leadership programs, or high-visibility internships, IU is the more established platform. It tends to offer a clearer on-campus path for students who want finance recruiting to be a major focus of college.

USF is more compelling for someone who prefers smaller-scale academics, an urban setting, and hands-on networking in San Francisco from day one. But on the specific question of which school has the stronger finance program overall and which is more likely to help with finance resume-building, Indiana University has the edge.
