Is Indiana University or Wake Forest better for business school?
I’m a high school junior trying to narrow down my college list and both Indiana University and Wake Forest are on it because I want to study business. I keep seeing both schools mentioned for strong business programs, but I’m having trouble understanding which one is generally considered the better choice for a business major.
I’m mostly trying to compare them in terms of overall business reputation and career outcomes.

For business specifically, Indiana University usually has the stronger name recognition because the Kelley School of Business is one of the most established undergraduate business programs in the country. Kelley is especially well known for its scale, breadth of majors, large alumni network, and recruiting pipelines into fields like finance, consulting, marketing, and operations. Wake Forest is also well respected, but its undergraduate business strength tends to be discussed more in terms of personal attention, strong teaching, and solid placement rather than the same level of standalone national brand in business.
Indiana makes the most sense for a student who wants a deep, business-centered ecosystem. Kelley offers many specialized tracks, a large business student community, and highly structured career preparation, including workshops, student organizations, and employer access that can be a real advantage if you want to explore multiple business paths or target competitive internships early. For overall business reputation alone, IU has the clearer edge.
Wake Forest fits a student who wants business in a smaller, more relationship-driven environment. The School of Business has a strong reputation, and Wake often does well with career outcomes because of its advising, engaged alumni base, and emphasis on communication and professionalism. A student who values smaller classes, closer faculty access, and a more private-school feel may find Wake’s setup more attractive, especially if they want business training with a broader liberal arts atmosphere.
On career outcomes, both can lead to excellent jobs, but the pattern is a little different. Indiana often shines through the sheer volume of recruiting and the reach of Kelley alumni across industries and regions. Wake can be very effective for students who take advantage of networking and want a more curated path, particularly in East Coast markets, but IU tends to have the bigger business-school machine behind it.
Indiana University has the stronger business-school reputation. Wake Forest remains a very good option, especially for students who care as much about the campus environment and smaller-scale experience as they do about the business label itself.
