For engineering, is Arizona State or Michigan considered more prestigious?

Arizona State makes more sense for a student who values a large, fast-growing engineering ecosystem with lots of practical opportunities and strong industry connections, particularly in the Southwest. ASU has built real credibility in engineering and produces many successful graduates, so this is not a case of one respected program versus one weak one. It is more that ASU is seen as a strong, accessible major public engineering school, while Michigan is seen as one of the more prestigious names in the field.

In recruiting, prestige is only part of the picture. At Michigan, the school name may open more doors immediately, especially outside the region. At ASU, outcomes can still be excellent, but students may need to be a bit more intentional about using internships, research, and networking to stand out in the same way.
