Is Colgate or Notre Dame better for business majors?
I’m a high school senior trying to narrow down my college list and both Colgate and Notre Dame are on it. I’m interested in studying business or something close to it, and I keep seeing both schools mentioned as strong options.
I’m trying to understand which one is generally considered better for business and why.

For business, Notre Dame is usually the more established and more directly business-focused option. It has a dedicated undergraduate business school and multiple business majors within the Mendoza College of Business. Colgate is a strong school overall, but it does not have an undergraduate business school, so the path is more indirect and closer to economics plus related quantitative or social science work.
Notre Dame fits the student who wants a classic undergraduate business experience from the start. If you want structured options like finance, accounting, marketing, or business analytics, along with business-specific advising, clubs, and recruiting pipelines, Notre Dame offers that in a more obvious way.
Colgate makes more sense for someone who prefers a liberal arts setting and is open to approaching business through economics, math, political science, or data-oriented coursework. That can still lead to business outcomes, but you would be building that path rather than stepping into a formal business program. Some students like that flexibility because it leaves room to combine quantitative skills with writing, policy, or broader humanities work.
There is also a difference in campus feel that matters here. Notre Dame tends to appeal to students who want a bigger school spirit culture, more preprofessional infrastructure, and a business program that is central to the university’s identity. Colgate is better suited to someone who wants smaller classes, a more intimate residential campus, and a less specialized undergraduate experience.
So if the question is strictly which school is considered stronger for business majors, the edge goes to Notre Dame. Colgate is still a very good choice for a student who wants a liberal arts education and may pursue business-related careers, but Notre Dame is the clearer pick for a student specifically seeking undergraduate business.
