UIUC sits in the twin-city area of Champaign-Urbana, where the university strongly shapes daily life and the campus has a spacious Big Ten feel. Berkeley’s campus is beautiful and iconic, but it blends much more directly into a dense city grid with heavier street activity, less separation from the surrounding area, and a faster pace.

One big difference is how self-contained each place feels. At UIUC, the campus is broad, green, and easier to experience as its own world, with quads, academic buildings, residence halls, and student spaces flowing through a setting that feels built around college life.
