The biggest practical tradeoff is environment: Wake Forest tends to offer a more established and structured path for pre-med students, while Pepperdine gives you a smaller, close-knit setting in Malibu but with fewer built-in advantages tied to nearby medical infrastructure. For med school preparation, access to advising, clinical exposure, research, and strong science coursework matters more than the label “pre-med,” and Wake usually has the clearer edge on those pieces. Wake Forest also benefits from its connection to a major academic medical center, which can make shadowing, research, and health-related opportunities more accessible.

Academically, both schools can prepare you for the core med school prerequisites, but Wake Forest is more often viewed as the stronger pre-health ecosystem overall. Its biology, chemistry, neuroscience, and related programs are well developed, and the university has a long-standing reputation for sending students into health professions. That does not guarantee easier grades, but it does mean the pre-med path is more deeply built into the campus structure.

Pepperdine can still work well for pre-med, especially if you want smaller classes, strong faculty interaction, and a faith-based environment. But compared with Wake, it is less commonly the first school people point to for pre-med specifically. You may need to be a bit more self-directed in piecing together research and clinical experiences, especially relative to a university with a more direct medical-center connection.
