Is the University of Georgia or NYU better for business?
I’m a junior trying to narrow down colleges for business, and I keep seeing both the University of Georgia and NYU come up. I know they have very different vibes and locations, but I’m not sure which one is generally considered stronger for a business major.
I’m mainly trying to understand which school has the better overall business reputation and opportunities.

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: NYU gives you a more nationally recognized business brand and direct access to New York finance, consulting, and internships during the school year, while the University of Georgia usually offers a more traditional campus experience at a much lower cost. For business specifically, NYU Stern is widely viewed as one of the standout undergraduate business schools in the country. UGA’s Terry College of Business is well respected, especially in the South, and has strong outcomes, but it does not carry the same across-the-board national prestige as Stern.
If you are asking purely about business reputation, NYU has the edge. Stern is especially prominent in finance, investment banking, consulting, and other fields where employer recognition matters a lot. Being in Manhattan also changes the kind of access students can have, since internships, networking events, and alumni connections are woven into the semester rather than mainly happening over breaks.
UGA is still a serious business option. Terry has a strong reputation in areas like accounting, finance, MIS, marketing, and risk management, and many employers recruit there consistently. It is especially attractive for students who want a large college community, SEC-style campus life, and a business education that can lead to solid outcomes without the same price tag.
So in a head-to-head comparison on business strength alone, NYU is usually considered the stronger name. The main reason to pick UGA over NYU is that it can offer excellent value, a very different student experience, and strong regional recruiting that may fit your goals just as well.
