It is more closely associated with intensive research, STEM, and medical connections, and people outside California are somewhat more likely to recognize it as a nationally prominent private university. That matters most if you care about how the school’s name lands across different parts of the country or in research-oriented circles.

Santa Clara is still a respected private university, but its reputation is more location-dependent. In and around the Bay Area, especially among employers who know its business and engineering programs well, Santa Clara can punch above what people on the East Coast or in the Midwest might assume. Its Jesuit identity, strong alumni network, and proximity to major tech companies give it real credibility, just in a somewhat narrower geographic lane.

So if the question is strictly “which school is seen as more prestigious overall,” Case Western has the edge. If the question is “which name carries more weight where I want to live and work,” Santa Clara can be just as compelling in Silicon Valley and certain business or tech settings.
