Case Western vs Georgia Tech for computer science: which is better for undergrad CS?

I’m trying to decide between Case Western and Georgia Tech for computer science and keep seeing them come up in different conversations for different reasons. I’m mainly looking at the overall undergrad CS experience, including academics, internship opportunities, and how the degree is viewed by employers.

I’m a high school senior trying to narrow down my list and would like to understand which school tends to be the stronger choice for CS overall.

Georgia Tech is the stronger pick for undergraduate computer science overall. Its CS program has a bigger national footprint, a wider set of specialized course options and threads within the major, and much deeper recruiting pipelines into major tech employers. For pure CS reputation, internship access, and employer recognition, Georgia Tech usually carries more weight.

One major differentiator is the scale and depth of the academics. Georgia Tech’s College of Computing is one of the most established computing schools in the country, and undergraduates benefit from a very broad catalog in areas like systems, AI, theory, devices, and human-computer interaction. Case Western has solid CS teaching and smaller classes can be a real plus, but it does not match Georgia Tech’s breadth of upper-level offerings or the same level of visibility in computer science specifically.

Internships and recruiting also lean clearly toward Georgia Tech. Atlanta gives students access to a strong local tech market, and the school has long-standing relationships with major software, finance, defense, and engineering employers. Georgia Tech’s co-op and internship culture is especially well developed, which matters because CS outcomes are driven heavily by recurring employer pipelines. Case Western students do get internships, especially in the Cleveland area and through individual initiative, but the volume and range of recruiting is usually more limited.

Employer perception is another clear advantage. A Georgia Tech CS degree is immediately recognizable to recruiters across the country, especially for software engineering and technical roles. Case Western is respected, especially as a strong private research university with good STEM programs, but in head-to-head CS name recognition, Georgia Tech tends to open more doors on first impression alone.

Case Western’s best argument is the undergraduate environment: it may offer a more personal feel, smaller classes earlier on, and easier faculty access. That can make the day-to-day experience less intense and sometimes more supportive. But if the question is which school tends to be stronger for CS overall, Georgia Tech has the clearer edge.
