Is Indiana University or Santa Clara University better for accounting majors?
I’m a high school junior trying to narrow down my college list, and accounting is the major I’m most interested in. Indiana University and Santa Clara University both keep coming up, but I’m having trouble comparing them for accounting specifically.
I want to understand which one has the stronger accounting program and overall reputation for helping students get good internships and jobs after graduation.

For accounting specifically, Indiana University usually has the stronger national reputation and broader recruiting reach. IU’s Kelley School of Business is very well known in accounting, has a large alumni network, and sends students into Big Four and other major firms across many regions. Santa Clara can still be an excellent option, especially if you want a smaller private-school environment and see yourself building a career in California, particularly around the Bay Area.
IU tends to fit the student who wants a highly visible business school with deep on-campus recruiting and a wide range of accounting-focused opportunities. Kelley has a long-established pipeline into public accounting, strong student organizations, and the kind of scale that can help if you want options across audit, tax, advisory, and different cities after graduation. If your goal is to maximize national portability and access to a very large business alumni base, IU has an edge.
Santa Clara makes more sense for the student who values smaller classes, closer faculty access, and a more intimate campus culture. Its Leavey School of Business is respected, and its location is a real asset for internships during the school year. While Santa Clara is not usually mentioned with the same national accounting weight as Kelley, it can be very effective for students targeting California employers and wanting to network locally while in college.
For internships and jobs, geography matters. IU gives you a bigger multi-region recruiting platform, while Santa Clara gives you proximity to Bay Area firms and companies. For pure accounting program strength and reputation, I would lean Indiana. For a student who prefers a smaller, private, West Coast setting and wants to work in California, Santa Clara has a very credible case.
