Indiana University vs. Notre Dame for finance careers: which is better for job placement and alumni network?

I’m a high school senior trying to decide between Indiana University and Notre Dame, and I’m interested in finance. I know both schools have strong reputations, but I’m trying to understand which one tends to be better for getting internships and full-time finance jobs.

I’m mainly looking at the strength of the alumni network, recruiting access, and how well each school sets students up for careers in banking or corporate finance.

For finance careers, Notre Dame usually has the stronger national pull for high-end placement, especially in investment banking, and its alumni network is famously active and loyal. Indiana can also be excellent, but the key difference is that at IU, a lot depends on getting into Kelley and then taking advantage of its most selective career pipelines. Notre Dame tends to offer broader prestige across markets, while Indiana offers very strong finance outcomes through a larger, more structured business-school system.

Notre Dame is a particularly compelling choice for the student who wants a tight, highly responsive alumni network and strong access to finance recruiting without needing to stand out inside a very large undergraduate business population. In banking and other competitive finance paths, Notre Dame alumni often go out of their way to help current students, and that matters a lot for networking-heavy hiring.

Indiana makes the most sense for the student who wants a true undergraduate business environment from the start and likes a large school with a deep bench of finance-related resources. Kelley has a very strong reputation with employers, solid placement into corporate finance, consulting-adjacent roles, and meaningful banking opportunities too. Its workshop model and career preparation structure can be a real advantage, but access to the most coveted outcomes is often more dependent on earning your way into the right programs, clubs, and recruiting channels.

For someone specifically prioritizing banking placement and alumni reach at the highest levels of finance, I would lean Notre Dame. For someone who wants a bigger campus, direct business-school infrastructure, and excellent outcomes if they are proactive and competitive within Kelley, Indiana is a very serious option.
