For finance careers, is the University of Miami or Fordham a better choice for recruiting and internships?
I’m a high school senior trying to decide between the University of Miami and Fordham, and I want to go into finance after college.
Both schools seem like they could lead to good opportunities, but I’m trying to understand which one has the stronger overall path for finance recruiting, internships, and getting a first job in the industry.

For finance, Fordham usually gives the cleaner path to recruiting and internships, mainly because of its New York City location and its direct access to firms during the school year. Being in the Bronx with easy access to Manhattan makes part-time internships, networking events, and informational interviews much more realistic while you are still in school.
Fordham tends to fit the student who wants to build a finance resume early and aggressively. If you are the kind of person who would take the train into the city for coffee chats, in-semester internships, and alumni events, Fordham gives you more of that ecosystem nearby. That matters because finance hiring often builds through repeated exposure, not just one summer internship.
University of Miami can still work well, especially for a student drawn to private wealth, real estate, asset management, or finance tied to Latin America and the Southeast. Miami has strong regional business connections. For someone who wants a warm-weather campus experience and is open to building a career in South Florida, UM has real value.
The difference is that Miami’s finance access is a bit more regional and less naturally plugged into the densest concentration of traditional finance recruiting. You may need to be more intentional about breaking into New York roles from UM, while at Fordham that path is more visible and built into the school’s geography. Fordham is not the same type of pipeline as the most elite Wall Street target schools, but among these two options, it has the clearer advantage for undergraduate finance recruiting.
