Auburn vs Iowa for pre-med: which is better for pre-med students?

For pre-med, that matters because clinical volunteering, shadowing, research, and physician connections are easier to find when a large teaching hospital is right there.

At Iowa, the University of Iowa Health Care system is a real asset. Having a large hospital and medical school connected to the university can make it easier to find research labs, clinical environments, and mentors who are already working with undergraduates. That does not guarantee better outcomes on its own, but for a pre-med student, the infrastructure is very relevant.

Auburn can still work well for pre-med, especially if you want a strong campus community and are comfortable being more proactive about finding medical experiences off campus. Its science programs are respected, and motivated students can absolutely build a competitive med school profile there. The difference is that the path may require more driving, more independent networking, and more effort to piece together shadowing and hospital-based experiences compared with Iowa.
