Ohio State vs University of Washington for undergraduate research opportunities
I'm trying to decide between Ohio State and the University of Washington, and research is a big factor for me. I want a school where an undergrad can realistically get involved in research early, even if I’m not already super experienced.

Ohio State gives you enormous breadth across colleges, labs, and research centers, which can create a lot of openings if you are proactive, while the University of Washington offers a very research-dense environment tied closely to major medical, public health, engineering, and computing work in Seattle. For getting involved early without much prior experience, Ohio State may have a slight practical edge simply because the scale of the university can produce more attainable first opportunities. You may be more likely to find a smaller lab, a less crowded department, or a faculty member willing to bring on a beginner. At UW, the upside can be exceptionally strong, but students often need to be more targeted and persistent because many peers are also pursuing the same research spaces.
If research access is the deciding factor by itself, I would lean slightly toward Ohio State for ease of entry and breadth of options, especially for a student still exploring.
