Wisconsin is especially appealing if you want a classic Big Ten campus with strong science departments and a slightly more contained college-town feel while still having access to serious research and clinical opportunities through UW Health and the campus science infrastructure.

Ohio State tends to fit students who are proactive, comfortable navigating a huge university, and eager to build their own path by taking advantage of a long menu of options. For pre-med, that matters because you need to find shadowing, service, research, and advising early, and OSU gives you a lot to work with if you are willing to seek it out. Its connection to the Wexner Medical Center is a real advantage, and Columbus also offers broad patient-facing and nonprofit opportunities beyond campus.

Wisconsin makes sense for students who want excellent academics without feeling like every opportunity is spread across an enormous system. Madison has a strong science culture, and UW’s research reputation is very real, especially in biology, biochemistry, and related fields. The setting can make it easier for some students to form faculty relationships, find community, and stay grounded, which matters in pre-med because GPA and sustained involvement are often more important than flashy program names.

In practice, the better pre-med choice often comes down to where you think you will thrive academically and personally. If you like high energy, breadth, and a big-city medical environment, Ohio State has an edge. If you want a more cohesive campus experience with top-tier science and a strong academic reputation in a college-centered city, Wisconsin is a very compelling place to do pre-med.
