Is Indiana University or Miami University better for a business major?

I’m trying to decide between Indiana and Miami University for business, and I keep seeing both mentioned as strong options. I want to know which one is generally considered the better choice for business overall, especially for someone who wants a solid undergrad business education and good career opportunities afterward.

I’m a high school senior narrowing down my list, so I’m mainly comparing the schools at a high level rather than looking at one specific program or major.

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale and recruiting reach versus a smaller, more personal campus feel. Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business has broader national visibility, a larger alumni network in business, and more extensive on-campus recruiting across finance, consulting, marketing, and accounting. Miami University’s Farmer School of Business is well regarded too, but it tends to feel more regional and smaller in employer reach, even though students often like its teaching-focused environment.

For business overall, Indiana is more often seen as the stronger name. Kelley has a long-standing reputation, a deep set of majors and career resources, and a very established pipeline into major employers. If your priority is maximizing options and brand recognition in business, Indiana usually has the edge.

Miami is still a very legitimate choice, especially if you prefer smaller classes, a more contained campus culture, and a program that can feel more undergraduate-centered. Some students thrive there because it may be easier to build close relationships with professors and stand out on campus. That matters, especially if you know you learn better in a less sprawling environment.

Career-wise, both can place students well, but Indiana tends to offer more volume: more recruiters, more alumni in big business hubs, and more visibility outside the Midwest. Miami’s outcomes can be strong, but the path can depend a bit more on how actively you network and use the school’s resources.

At a high level, if you are asking which school is more widely considered the better business option, the answer is Indiana University. Miami is a good business school, but Indiana is the one that more consistently carries extra weight for undergraduate business and post-college opportunities.
