Is Michigan State or the University of San Francisco better for finance careers?

I’m trying to choose between Michigan State and the University of San Francisco, and I’m most interested in finance after college. Both schools seem like solid options, but I’m not sure which one would give me better recruiting, internship, and job opportunities in finance.

I’m mostly looking at which school has the stronger path into finance careers overall.

For finance careers overall, Michigan State usually gives you the broader and more established path.

Michigan State tends to fit the student who wants a classic large-university business experience with lots of employers, student organizations, and alumni connections to tap into. The Eli Broad College of Business is well known. A student who is comfortable being proactive in a large environment can use that scale well, especially through finance clubs, case competitions, and internship recruiting cycles.

USF makes more sense for the student who wants to build a finance career through location and hustle rather than sheer campus recruiting volume. Being in San Francisco puts you close to wealth management, fintech, venture-adjacent finance, commercial banking, and Bay Area internships during the school year. That can be valuable if you are very intentional about networking off campus and want to work in a city while in college.

If your idea of finance includes corporate finance, financial analyst roles, big-company internships, or a wider range of postgrad options, Michigan State is the safer platform. If you are especially interested in Bay Area opportunities and are the kind of student who will actively network with local firms from your first semester, USF can work well, but it is more self-driven. For most students choosing on finance outcomes alone, Michigan State has the stronger overall path.
