Michigan State vs Fordham for finance careers: which is better for recruiting and job placement?

I’m trying to decide between Michigan State and Fordham and I want to study finance. I know both schools can lead to good opportunities, but I’m mainly looking at which one gives me a stronger path into finance jobs after college.

I’m especially interested in which school has better recruiting for finance careers and overall job placement into the industry.

For finance specifically, Fordham usually has the clearer edge in direct access to recruiting because of its New York City location and its pipeline into internships during the school year. Being in the Bronx, with easy access to Manhattan, matters a lot for finance since students can network, attend firm events, and work part-time internships while classes are in session.

Fordham is especially attractive for the student who wants proximity to Wall Street and is ready to use it aggressively. A lot of finance recruiting depends on repeated networking, coffee chats, alumni outreach, and internships before junior summer, and Fordham makes that more realistic logistically.

Michigan State makes more sense for the student who wants a bigger campus experience, a larger alumni network overall, and strong placement into a wider range of business roles. The Broad College of Business is well regarded, and MSU can absolutely place students into finance jobs. It is a strong platform, but the path into high-finance recruiting is usually less location-driven and may require more travel, more intentional networking, and more self-starting outside the immediate campus orbit.

If you are the kind of student who will take advantage of a huge university, join finance clubs early, and cast a broad net across regions and industries, Michigan State can work very well. Its size can open doors, but it does not give you the same day-to-day access to New York finance that Fordham does.

So in a head-to-head on finance recruiting and industry job placement, Fordham has the tighter connection to finance employers. Michigan State is still a solid choice, but it is usually stronger as a broad business school outcome than as the more direct finance recruiting launchpad.
