Michigan vs Notre Dame for finance careers: which school has the stronger recruiting for banking and finance jobs?
I’m trying to decide between Michigan and Notre Dame and I want to go into finance after college. I know both schools are respected, but I’m not sure which one gives students a stronger path into banking and other finance jobs.
I’m mainly looking at the overall recruiting strength and how helpful the alumni network is for getting those first internships and full-time offers.

Michigan has the edge for finance careers overall, especially if you mean broad recruiting strength across investment banking, markets, asset management, corporate finance, and larger on-campus employer volume. Ross is one of the most visible undergraduate business programs in the country, major banks recruit there consistently, and the Michigan alumni base is enormous in New York, Chicago, and other major finance hubs. If your priority is having the widest menu of finance recruiting paths and student organizations feeding into them, Michigan is usually the deeper platform.
One big differentiator is the undergraduate business structure. At Michigan, Ross gives you a highly established finance pipeline with clubs, technical prep, peer mentorship, and employer access that is unusually built out at the undergraduate level. That matters for internships because finance recruiting starts early, and schools with a mature pre-professional ecosystem tend to make the process more navigable.
Notre Dame is still very strong, and its alumni network is famously loyal. For some students, that loyalty can be a real advantage because alumni often respond enthusiastically and are willing to advocate in a personal way. Mendoza is respected, and Notre Dame places well into finance, especially with students who take advantage of its tight-knit culture and relationship-driven network.
The tradeoff is that Michigan’s recruiting machine is broader and more institutionalized, while Notre Dame’s strength can feel more relationship-based and somewhat smaller in scale.
