At Michigan, Ann Arbor is deeply tied to the university, so the school shapes the town’s rhythm, especially around football Saturdays, downtown restaurants, and student-heavy neighborhoods. UC San Diego sits in La Jolla, which is beautiful and relaxed, but it does not revolve around student life in the same all-encompassing way.
