Is the University of Michigan or NYU better for accounting?

NYU can still be excellent for access to internships during the school year, but the path can feel a bit more self-directed depending on which NYU program you are in.

That matters in accounting, where employer pipelines, alumni connections, and organized career support can make the process much smoother. Michigan also has a strong campus community around business, which can make it easier to build relationships with classmates headed into similar fields.

NYU’s biggest advantage is proximity. Being in New York makes part-time internships and networking during the academic year much more accessible, especially if you want early exposure to firms in the city. But for pure accounting preparation, students often view Michigan as the more cohesive undergraduate business environment, especially if you value a classic business school setup with clear recruiting channels.

One important detail is program structure. At Michigan, Ross is the key business path, and that brand carries a lot of weight. At NYU, your experience depends heavily on whether you are looking at Stern or another school, since Stern is the main undergraduate business program and is much more directly comparable to Ross.
